Prof. Dr. Başak BAKSU

Prof. Dr. N. Başak Baksu completed her primary education at Kayseri Ahmet Paşa Primary School. She completed her secondary and high school education at Istanbul American Robert College between 1981-1988. She graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1994.

She started her residency in the field of dermatology at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Dermatology. When she was called to a newly established university to finish her residency, her assignment period was not extended and as she did not believe that she could receive adequate education, she took the Medical Speciality Examination (TUS) again and was entitled to enter the Dermatology Clinic of Haseki Training and Research Hospital. During her residency here, she realised that what she thought shebe wanted did not make her happy and decided to change specialty. Thus, after 3 TUS exams, she entered the Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic and completed her residency in 2000. In 2011, she became a subspecialist in Perinatology (High Risk Pregnancy). In 2013, she received the title and authorisation of 'University Associate Professor' in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In 2018, she became 'Professor' in the same field.

Başak Baksu, who continued her post-graduate education after becoming a specialist, completed her rotation in Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Prenatal Diagnosis and Treatment Unit between 2005-2007. In 2007, she visited Toronto University Mount Sinai Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Department Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division and The Hospital for Sick Children Pediatrics Department Division of Cardiology Fetal Echocardiology Unit. In 2014, she was an observer at the Universtität Bonn Medizinische Fakultät Zentrum für Geburtshilfe und Pränatalmedizin in the field of fetal intervention and fetal echocardiography.

She worked as chief assistant in the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinics of Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital between 2001-2009, and in the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinics of Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital between 2009-2011 where she trained many residents. She worked as a perinatologist at the Haseki Training and Research Hospital Perinatology Outpatient Clinic between 2011-2014, and in the Perinatology Clinic of Zeynep Kamil Women's and Children's Training and Research Hospital between 2014-2016. After 20 years of state service, she is still continuing her profession at Acıbadem Kozyatağı Hospital. After her professorship title, she taught as a faculty member at Nişantaşı University for 4 years.

She has many scientific studies published in international and national journals, papers presented in international and national congresses, educational activities and book translations.

In 2000, she was awarded the Gynaecological Lapaoroscopy Scholarship by the Astra Zeneca pharmaceutical company and received laparoscopic surgery training at Istanbul Medical Faculty, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Infertility Division.

In 2002, she took part as an instructor in the 'Reproductive Health Assistant Training and Reproductive Health Service Quality Improvement Project', which is a joint work of the Human Resources Development Foundation and the Ministry of Health within the scope of the ""United Nations Population Fund Third Countries Programme (UNFPA)"" and subsequently organised these courses.Prof. Dr. Başak Baksu's biography has been included in the Marquis Who's Who in the World, which has been published by the American publishing house Marquis every year since 1972.

She has scientific studies and book translations published in many international and national journals.

She is a member of the Robert College Alumni Association, Bizim Tepe, ENKA, Darüşşafaka, Turkish Maternal Fetal Medicine Association, Turkish Gynaecology Association, Urogynecology Association, Cervical Pathologies and Colposcopy Association, Turkish Infertility and Reproductive Medicine Association.

Prof. Dr. Başak Baksu is a member of the board of directors of the Özgen Berkol Doğan Science Fiction Library and Culture House and works for the development and opening of this institution to the world.
